This session will not address technical problems, but the pedagogy of online instruction. Committee Work Committees may meet if needed. FYI- During Committee Work, FPD would like to meet with the Midterm Student Feedback reviewers to reflect on what we learned fall semester about this process. Bring a paragraph with you describing your fondest dream of a course you teach: in an ideal situation, what kind of impact would you like to have on the students in this course? You will have the opportunity to work (sometimes in small groups) on identifying significant learning experiences, on creating the image that will help make your dream become a classroom reality. Wednesday, January 9, 2008 8:30-10:00 Blackboard Content and Community Systems (LA275) Blackboard representatives will be sharing with those faculty who are interested the features of the Content System and the Community System as we continue to explore the possibility of extending our current Blackboard Learning System. The Content System would allow us to share and reuse learning objects, provide students with e-portfolios, and deliver a secure collaborative environment for users. Institutions use the Community System to improve student engagement and retention. 10:30-12:00 Blackboard Outcomes System (LA275) Accrediting and audit organizations require systematic assessment of student learning outcomes. In this session, representatives from Blackboard will share with interested faculty how the Outcomes System provides a comprehensive set of instruments for student and program assessment to help plan, measure, and improve learning outcomes. The representatives can answer your questions as we continue to explore the possibility of extending our current Blackboard Learning System. 12:00-1:00 Brown Bag Lunch with Larry and Roger (Garrett's) 1:00-2:00 General Faculty Meeting II (Towsley) Enterprise Information Security Briefing: This session focuses on the importance of maintaining data integrity and proper security on information and computer systems. Topics covered will include data classification and handling, encryption, viruses, desktop security, phishing, spyware, etc. The process of protecting your data and the college�s information systems is not a one-time event, but an ongoing process that requires the skills and knowledge that are provided with the proper training. Thursday, January 10, 2008 9:00-10:30 Radiography of the Chiribaya Mummies of Peru (LA175) This PowerPoint presentation by Jim Skufis from the Radiography Department has images, sound, and video clips highlighting the WCC radiography students' trip to Peru to dig up and X-ray mummies. 11:00-12:00 Computer Forensics, Recovery, Reconstruction and Cyber Crime (LA175) James Lewis from Electricity/Electronics Department has a sabbatical presentation on the rapidly changing environment of cyber space and how the digital forensics field is rapidly evolving. The presentation will identify some of the latest techniques in how lost or corrupted data may be recovered and how cyber crimes are detected. Writing Effective Letters of Recommendation (LA370) Deborah Bayer will provide some guidelines for writing letters of recommendation. She will suggest ways to seek pertinent information from the student requesting a recommendation and offer tips about how to craft an effective letter. 1:00-2:30 Open Session with DTF (LA355) The Developmental Task Force will be hosting a forum to discuss student success in developmental classes. We�ll review the latest success rates, attendance policy, and explore more collaboration amongst departments. 2:30-3:30 A Visual Teaching Tool for Assisting Instructors and Students (LA175) Ready for a teaching tool that's simple, innovative, and realistically applicable? Join David A. Wooten (Biology) as he explains a unique teaching tool that quickly and accurately helps students to realize where their study habits are deficient, how to improve those areas, and how to practice those skills to ultimately reach their desired grade. It's visual, it's syllabus friendly and student friendly, a nd it's adaptable to practically any course. Humanities Full/PT Winter Planning Summit (Garrett's) Contact Paulette Grotrian if you have any questions. 10:00-11:30 Cheating 101 (LA175) Faculty perspective and input sought on the question, �Is it time for WCC to initiate a comprehensive institutional policy on Academic Dishonesty?� Larry Aeilts will host a brief presentation providing a short review of the issue followed by discussion. During the latter, suggestions on methods to increase student awareness and integrity along with suggestions on methods of disciplinary action will be discussed. View the Academic Dishonesty powerpoint on the WCC Intranet. 9:00-4:00 Fitness Fun (Fitness Center) Whether you are member of the fitness center or not, President Whitworth invites you to get away from your desk and take an energizing trip to the fitness center. When you work out today, please be sure to fill out an activity card located at the front desk. You may fill out a card for each activity you do at the fitness center today (i.e. walking, swimming, spinning) and each card will be entered into a drawing for $50 gift cards. This is a great time to recharge your mind, body, and soul.
