       New Beginning: Ceramics at Washtenaw Community College


Works created by students and faculty members in WCC's new ceramics studio will be exhibited at the College's Gallery One from June 15 through July 17. The show is titled "New Beginning: Ceramics at Washtenaw Community College."

An opening reception and lecture will highlight the exhibition on June 17. The reception will be in the gallery from 4:00pm to 6:30pm, and the lecture will be in room 175 of the Crane Liberal Arts and Sciences building at 5:00pm.

The lecturer is renowned ceramicist Robert Piepenberg, who will give a slide presentation titled "Cultivating Your Creativity." Piepenberg has received a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and teaches at Oakland Community College. He's especially known for his work using raku, a Japanese firing method.

Piepenberg has written a number of books, including "Treasures of the Creative Spirit,""Raku Pottery," "The Spirit of Clay: A Classic Guide to Ceramics," and "The Spirit of Ceramic Design: Cultivating Creativity With Clay."
