       Test Taking Accommodation Procedures

Receiving Test Taking Accommodations:

Prior to scheduling and taking entry/assessment tests, COMPASS or ASSET tests and classroom tests in Learning Support Services (LSS), students must do the following each semester for each class:
  • make a request to LSS for test taking accommodations (e.g. reader/scribe, extended time, assistive technology, etc.).
  • provide supporting documentation of disability consisting of current medical or other diagnostic information including limitations.
  • receive a determination and approval by LSS staff for the accommodation(s).
Accommodations are individualized and course specific. If, after review of the documentation and consultation with the student, testing accommodations are deemed appropriate, LSS will provide a letter for the student to present to the specific classroom instructor(s) notifying them of the need for accommodations.

Making Test Arrangements

Alternate sites for testing can be arranged either at the Testing Center or in LSS. However, only LSS can provide accommodations.

It is recommended for students to make testing appointments as soon as a test date is known to ensure the availability of proctors, space and specific accommodations.

The student notifies the instructor that a test has been scheduled in LSS so that the instructor can deliver the test to LSS and complete a Test Instructions Form. The student may also take a Test Instructions Form to the instructor for completion. However, only an instructor may deliver a test to LSS or provide the LSS proctor with instructions for picking up or delivering a test.

Tests must be scheduled according to the due dates given by instructors. It is the student's responsibility to make testing appointments prior to the due date of the test. Students must discuss changes to testing appointments that are beyond a test due date with instructors. Extension of a test due date is subject to instructor approval.

Test Administration

Students are generally expected to complete a test in one sitting unless otherwise indicated by the instructor. If a student requests breaks, only a portion of the test will be provided and the student will be expected to take that portion before taking a break.

Unless permitted by the instructor, students will not have access to books, notes or other school materials during the test. Scratch paper will be provided by LSS and collected at the end of the test.

Cell phones, pagers, laptops, Ipods and other electronic devices are not permitted in the testing rooms.
