Friday, May 9th, 2008
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Washtenaw Community College’s student newspaper The Voice, its staff and immediate past staff captured 17 awards, including two top honors, in the annual Michigan Community College Press Association newspaper contest.
Top honors included General Excellence and Journalist of the Year, which went to Chan Park. The award honors “an individual from any editorial department showing a nose for news and a knack for clearly communicating with readers so that their newsroom has been transformed in some significant way.” Park claimed the equivalent award last fall in division III (community colleges) of the Michigan Press Association student newspaper contest. Since graduating last year from WCC, Park has become managing editor of the Eastern Echo.
