Jason Kluck is tackling something that might overwhelm other design students: he's painting
a 52 X 12.5 foot backdrop based on a design he conceptualized for the WCC Foundation Mardi
Gras-Carnevale di Venezia.
"I worked hard on the Mardi Gras backdrop because I wanted to prove that the money they gave me was worth it," says Kluck. The money was a surprise check from the WCC Foundation that Kluck received before last semester started. He thinks that it was instigated by a graphic design instructor based on his work and his high grades. "It was a nice surprise when I opened the mail. I felt really good about it because I had just given up a good-paying job and that check helped me live so I could pursue my dreams of a career using my artistic talents," says Kluck. Kluck has finished his program and he looks back on his experience with great satisfaction. He feels that he learned on the best technology, had teachers who gave him practical advice and let him incorporate his style into his class work. "When I saw Jason's work for Mardi Gras it spoke to me of Venice," says Rose Bailey, events manager at the WCC Foundation. "I feel honored and excited about being chosen to create the backdrop for the Mardi Gras," says Kluck. "I want everyone to know who did this work. I'm very proud of it." And Bailey was equally excited. "After 36 hours of detailed work I watched as Jason put the 13 panels of the backdrop together. His jaw dropped and I heard him whisper, 'Wow'."
