Humanities Department Home The humanities can be defined as those aspects of culture that explore human experience and that investigate the universe through literature and the arts. At WCC the humanities have traditionally included such disciplines as fine arts, art appreciation and art history, mythology, literature, philosophy, religion, and history. Believe it or not, more than half our students are enrolled in a humanities class. In part, that is because most of our humanities courses transfer to four-year colleges and universities. But the high enrollment is also a testimony to the value of studying the humanities for their own sake. Whatever your career path may be, a course in the humanities will give you an invaluable perspective on the world and your place in it. In addition, critical thinking and communication skills that you develop will provide an essential foundation for any job in this fast-paced world. |
