History of WCC College Archives

The Washtenaw Community College Archives (College Archives) was established by the WCC Board of Trustees with the recommendation of the WCC President, May 1980 in preparation for the 15th anniversary of the College. At that time it was designated to be "...a permanent part of the Learning Resource Center." Furthermore, "it would be the objectives of the Archive to collect, catalog, and make available for study and use documents, photographs, published materials, as well as recorded materials concerning the College's founding and progress over the fifteen years. The Archive would be a depository for College materials in the future." It is a non-circulating, closed-stack research collection, and is currently available by appointment only.

The College Archives had been housed in SC 355 in the Student Center Building since its creation. It is now housed in SC 334A, managed by John Phibbs.

The College Archives collects, maintains, and makes available for research, primary resource materials. Dating back to the early 1960's, these original sources include such items as the Board of Trustees Minutes, student and staff publications: The Voice, The Student Voice, and Link-Up, literary magazines: The Ann Arbor Review, Northern Spies, and The Huron River Review, and more. The College Archives also collects commencement programs, college bulletins and course schedules, department files, minutes, reports, photographs, videos and slides, scrapbooks and much more.

The WCC Archives is open to researchers by appointment. Contact John Phibbs, College Archivist at 734-973-3637 or email at for access or more information.
